The sun was shining and there definitely was above +10 degrees Celsius in the sun this time. This 10k run didn’t go too badly. Came in third out of about 80 runners. Ok, the time was one of the worst I ran in a long time (36:23min) but the route wasn’t an easy one, constant [...]

Going for the Helsinki Spring 1/2 Marathon event tomorrow. Not running the 21.1k but the 10k that’s offered as a side event, need some indication on where we are fitness wise for the upcoming Hamburg Marathon. The event seems rather likeable one. The info section for participants states, what local running celebrities are present - [...]

It’s racing time again. Now during winter it’s the 10k’s again. The Aktia Cup winter series as last year with it’s second run. The series starts in Novmeber and consists of 5 runs. Pretty much the best crowd you can run with in Finland at this point in the year.
Thought about a novelty this time [...]

Have some troubles to classify the race result, 36:08 min on a hilly course,
finished as 54th or so. Although it rained, the event was great otherwise, samba
and techno vibes at the start, over 20.000 people all in green midnightsloppet
shirts, nice late summer evening temperatures.
There are several extraordinary things with starting in start group 1A, right [...]

It’s 19:40, just above two hours to go to the start of this year’s midnight run on Södermalm in Stockholm. Friends are met, all pasta is eaten, presents for the loved ones at home are bought. There’s an awful wide variety on Knäckebröd (crisp bread) in the shops here. The football game is over. Hammarby [...]

It’s happening on Stockholm’s Södermalm (southside) on this weekend and it’s gonna be big. According to the run’s official website around 21.500 runners are at the starting line. The race starts traditionally at 10pm to Brazil Samba rythms and a lot of spectators along the way. The place to be, the place for a new [...]

We love competitions in Finland. In no other country - as far as I have observed - are held so many national championships than in this little nordic place. The trick is to invite someone from Estonia or Sweden to lift it to a European Championship event. And if someone from Russia, east of Moscova [...]

The last of the 10k test races before the Rotterdam Marathon on April 5th, again in Hakunila, Vantaa, north of Helsinki. The Aktia Cup’s last run of the winter series. The winter series consists of 5 runs starting from November. The conditions were good this time. Some wet and slushy patches at the start and [...]

Had it been better to continue forcing myself through the 10k race and come out with a time of 36:30 - 37 mins? I decided not to and dropped out.
The fourth of five 10k races of the Aktia Cup winter series was the first one with real winter road conditions. Snow in the start and [...]

This sucks. A next 10k test race ahead in Hakunila, Vantaa (north of Helsinki) on Saturday and there’s a good chance that it won’t be fun.
The series of 10k races during the late fall and winter of this project was supposed to build up the competitive spirit for the marathon. And by finishing [...]
