9daystoberlinQuite a busy morning with calling and arranging all kinds of appointments with docs and orthopedists. Yesterday’s injury brought some “mental imbalances”. Was a bit worried with the left leg/hip hurting on every step. After three times trying to reach Jouko, the orthopedist I got recommended by the local athletics club, I got an appointment with the doc at work first thing Friday, tomorrow morning.  But he’s a generalist and would normally just refer me to a specialist. Hence I called a private orthopedist myself as well and got an appointment at 13:30 for Friday as well.

Fortunately, Jouko called back later in the day and after describing the symptoms and discussing the case, two options stood out. An inflammatory injury at the upper end of the muscle tying the thigh to the hip. Or a strain injury including the bones. The latter would be worse by a couple of magnitudes, but seems more unlikely. For the first, the training intensity went down, not up in the last weeks. Secondly, the injury came quite suddenly last week. No signs of overtraining or other physiological trouble otherwise. We opted for the first. Treatment would mean strong anti-inflammatory painkillers, such as Burana 800mg three times a day, for 4-5 days.

No time to loose. Went straight after the call down to the occupational health department, the doc station at work and asked for some burana medicine from the nurse. They only had 400mg pills, but double the amount of those and you get 800mg, too. It seems to work, some hours after taking the first ones, walking was nearly pain free and now in the evening after the second dose things feel again a little better. But, hey, I’m taking painkillers here, no wonder that they do their job.

Anyway, the plan is now to ask the doc tomorrow morning for a pharmacy recipe to get those stronger ones. Might skip to see the other orthopedist in the afternoon, it just costs a hell lot of money if they start taking magnetic images and stuff. Most importantly I feel a lot mor upbeat again than yesterday.
